A Spontaneous Bus Ride to Kaposvár: Finding Charm in the Quiet Corners of Hungary
by abrilllThe Best Travel Mistake: Switching from Train to Bus

My Sunday started with a bit of a scramble. I rushed to the Pécs train station, only to find no ticket machines and a confusing counter experience. The staff insisted I take the bus instead. Initially frustrated, I soon realized it was a blessing in disguise! The bus was cheaper, warmer, and offered a seamless, scenic journey straight to the heart of Kaposvár. Sometimes, when your original plan fails, travel has a better one waiting for you.
Kaposvár: A Town in Transition

Upon arriving, I found the main square in the middle of a "post-holiday" cleanup. They were dismantling the giant Christmas tree, which gave the square a slightly chaotic, "construction site" feel. However, the colorful buildings and the town's artistic vibe still shone through.

It was a quiet Sunday, and most shops were closed, leaving the streets peacefully empty. I spent my time experimenting with my lenses—though I had a heart-stopping moment when I almost dropped one in the snow! Luckily, the soft snow acted as a cushion. The town’s serene atmosphere was the perfect backdrop for some slow photography and deep thoughts.

The Great Restroom Adventure

One thing they don't tell you about small-town travel in winter: finding an open restroom is a mission! I ended up entering two different supermarkets hoping for a "pit stop," only to find none. Following the "must buy to exit" rule, I walked out with KitKats and some surprisingly delicious local candies. Eventually, I found refuge in a cozy cafe.

Despite a slightly grumpy owner, the chocolate mousse was divine, and I spent an hour lost in a good novel while charging my phone in secret.

Pécs: A Grand Finale with Seafood Pasta
I headed back to Pécs just as the sun began to dip. The highlight of the evening wasn't a famous landmark, but a meal. I stumbled into a restaurant right in front of my hotel and ordered seafood pasta. It was, without a doubt, a "top-tier" meal—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. They even served free potato chips with my draft beer! It was the kind of meal that makes you wish you had discovered the place on your very first night.

As I pack my bags for Budapest tomorrow, I’m reminded that the best parts of travel aren't always the landmarks, but the spicy pasta, the quiet cafe corners, and the small victories over broken plans.
