Vienna: Embracing Curvy Architecture and the Colorful Spirit of Hundertwasser
by abrilllA Turkish Delight at Naschmarkt

My first morning in Vienna started with a stroll through the Naschmarkt, the city’s most famous open-air market. The stalls were overflowing with olives, spices, and an endless variety of Turkish Delights. It felt like a crossroads of cultures, where the scent of kebabs mixed with the morning air of Vienna. While the lively atmosphere was perfect for people-watching, I found myself longing for a quiet corner to enjoy the city's famous cafe culture.

Hundertwasser: The Architect of Nature

The highlight of my day was visiting the Kunst Haus Wien (Hundertwasser Museum) and the Hundertwasser House. Before today, I thought of Friedensreich Hundertwasser simply as an architect, but I discovered he was a profound painter and environmentalist who lived his philosophy.

His work is famous for having "no straight lines," believing they were "godless." In the museum, I saw his vibrant, colorful paintings on handmade paper and intricate models of his buildings. Even though photography was restricted inside, the visual impact of his wavy floors and tree-filled windows stayed with me. It was a powerful reminder of how art can reconnect us with nature.

Chasing the Winter Light
One thing every winter traveler learns is that the sun waits for no one. I spent a bit too long in the museum and reached the Hundertwasser House just as the light was fading. Thankfully, my wide-angle lens helped me capture the whimsical, multicolored facade even in the dim light. I also explored the nearby "Hundertwasser Village," where even the restrooms are designed as a piece of art!

The Reality of Solo Travel: A Supermarket Mystery
After a long day of walking, I headed to a local supermarket to stock up on supplies. Solo travel is full of small "lost in translation" moments. I bought what I thought was plain yogurt, only to realize later it was heavy cream for cooking! And my bottle of water turned out to be sparkling.

Sipping on a lemon beer and snacking on tomatoes, I reflected on the day. Vienna is grand and historical, but it's these quiet, slightly clumsy moments in a hotel room that make the journey feel real. Tomorrow, more art and perhaps a proper Viennese coffee await.
