The day began with a race to the station. After a delicious yogurt breakfast at the hotel, I rushed to catch the early train to Olomouc.

I missed the first one, but the wait at Brno station became a mini-photoshoot session with my 85mm lens.

The 1.5-hour train ride was like a scene from "Snowpiercer." Outside the window, a vast, white "Snow Kingdom" unfolded. I even spotted a wild rabbit dashing through the deep snow! Inside the warm carriage, everything felt peaceful and poetic—the perfect winter escape.

Getting Lost in the Blue City

Arriving at Olomouc, I bought a 24-hour tram ticket for just 46 CZK (half the price of Brno!). Without knowing the language, I followed the crowd onto a tram and luckily ended up right in the city center.

The city was covered in a fresh layer of snow, making the cobblestone streets crunch under my boots. It was freezing, but the "Holy Trinity Column" (a UNESCO site) looked magnificent against the white backdrop. I switched to my 14mm wide-angle lens, and the view was simply breathtaking. In Europe, a wide-angle lens is not just an option; it’s a necessity to capture the scale of these historic squares.

Wenceslas Cathedral: A Hidden Gem

My highlight of the day was Saint Wenceslas Cathedral. While the exterior was sharp and Gothic, the interior was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Every wall was covered in intricate patterns and vibrant colors. Even as a non-practicing traveler, I felt a deep sense of peace standing under those high, ornate ceilings. It’s a place where you can truly feel the weight of history and art.

Steak, Wine, and the Early Night

For lunch, I visited a top-rated local restaurant and treated myself to a steak with French fries and a glass of rosé wine. The steak was perfection, and the wine gave me a warm glow to face the cold again.

However, winter in a small Czech city brings a surprise: by 6 PM, the streets felt like 2 AM! Almost every shop was closed, and the bustling daytime energy vanished into a quiet, frozen night. I spent my last hour at the station, reflecting on the day's journey. Olomouc might be quiet in the winter, but its artistic soul shines bright even in the coldest months.
