Brno: A Day of Retro Trams, Winter Wandering, and the "Angel" Mozart

by abrilll

A Hearty Start to a Cold Day

After a much-needed long sleep, I woke up feeling refreshed. The first thing on my mind was breakf

ast! The hotel served a massive omelet filled with ham and cheese, accompanied by four slices of bread, juice, and coffee. It was a heavy, satisfying meal that provided the energy I desperately needed to face the biting Czech winter.

The Mystery of the Baby Mozart

After exchanging some currency near the train station, I began my exploration. One of the funniest sights in Brno was the Mozart Statue in the main square. It has Mozart's face on a teenage-angel body—a truly unique and slightly bewildering piece of art! I couldn't help but laugh at how unexpected it was.

Warmth on Wheels: The Retro Tram Journey

The cold in Brno was intense, making it difficult to walk for long. I decided to buy a 24-hour tram pass for 90 CZK, which turned out to be the best decision of the day. I hopped on a vintage-style "historical" tram (Line 4), where warm air blasted from the side vents.

Without a fixed destination, I let the tram take me wherever it went. I watched the snowy streets of Brno blur past the window, occasionally dozing off in the warmth. I ended up riding it to the terminus and back, enjoying the quiet, retro atmosphere. It was the perfect way to see the city without freezing.

Colorful Streets and Winter Realities

On another tram ride, I hopped off randomly when I saw some beautiful buildings that reminded me of Burano, Italy. If it weren't so cold, I would have spent hours photographing every corner.

My day became a cycle of: Walk – Feel the cold – Search for a hat in shops – Fail to find one – Hop on a tram to warm up. Eventually, the exhaustion from the cold won. I stopped by a local supermarket to grab some snacks, chocolate, and beer, and decided to retreat to my cozy rooftop room.

Embracing the Slow Pace

Solo travel means having the freedom to say, "I've seen enough for today." Even though the sunset was approaching, I chose the warmth of my room over the freezing winds outside. Looking back, Brno was charming and artistic, but it definitely taught me one thing: Europe in winter is beautiful, but it requires a lot of resilience!
