The Chaos of Day One: Snow, Cilantro, and a 12-Hour Journey to Warsaw
by abrilllThe Longest 12 Hours

My journey began with a 2 AM alarm and a heavy camera lens on my shoulder. Little did I know, this was just the start of a very long day. Due to a sudden airport crowd and a 1-hour flight delay, I spent over 12 hours trapped in a window seat. By the time I landed, my only thought was: "On the flight back, I am definitely getting an aisle seat!"

A Snowy Greeting in Poland

I arrived in Warsaw for a short layover before heading to Slovakia. I had booked a Marriott right next to the airport for convenience, but even finding the hotel felt like a mission in my exhausted state. After a quick refresh, I forced myself to go out.

The moment I stepped outside, I was greeted by a massive snowstorm. Standing in the middle of Europe, watching heavy snowflakes fall under the streetlights, was magical yet overwhelming. My only regret? Leaving my scarf back in the hotel room.

The International Language of... Cilantro?
Frozen and hungry, I gave up on sightseeing and ducked into a random restaurant. I ordered "Today's Soup" and a pasta dish to warm up. Then came the shock—Cilantro. I never expected to encounter so much cilantro in Poland! It was in the soup, it was in the pasta... as the food cooled down, the scent became even stronger. It was a humble reminder for any solo traveler: always learn how to say "No cilantro, please" in the local language, or at least in the international language of gestures!

The Comfort of a Hotel Bath
I retreated to my hotel, defeated by the snow and the cilantro. But the day ended on a high note. I soaked in a warm bathtub—a rare luxury during travel—and enjoyed a capsule coffee in my room.

Solo travel is a continuous series of choices, and you take full responsibility for all of them. Today, my choices led me to a snowy struggle and a cilantro disaster, but lying in that warm bed, I felt the unique thrill of being completely on my own in a foreign land. Tomorrow, the journey continues to Bratislava. I just hope the snow takes a break!
