Bratislava's Blue Charm and the Great "Staircase Challenge" in Brno
by abrilll
A Frantic Morning and the Blue Church

My last morning in Bratislava started with a bit of a panic. I thought I had lost my passport and ran back to the hotel with a cold sweat, only to find it tucked safely in my bag. After that heart-stopping moment, the city felt even more precious.

I decided to take it slow and visited the Blue Church (The Church of St. Elizabeth). It’s a bit of a walk from the Old Town, but it was worth every step. The church is intensely blue—both inside and out—looking like something straight out of a Wes Anderson movie. Even though I couldn't go fully inside, peeking through the doors felt like discovering a hidden sapphire in the city.

Battling the "Cutter Winds"

Bratislava in January is no joke. One moment the snow is beautiful, and the next, it feels like icy hail is hitting your face. I found shelter in a cozy bookstore cafe, enjoying a croissant and cappuccino while the blizzard raged outside.

Despite the cold, I managed to take a selfie with the famous Napoleon’s Army Soldier statue and wandered through the charming Old Town one last time. By the time I headed to the train station, the wind was so sharp that my face was literally frozen—I could barely speak!

The Journey to Brno: Sunset and Battery Drains
The train ride to Brno, Czech Republic, was a quiet transition. I watched the golden sunset colors bleed into the dark sky, though I accidentally sat in a backward-facing seat! Pro tip for winter travelers: the cold kills phone batteries instantly. My phone went from 20% to 9% in just ten minutes. Luckily, I had a good book to keep me company as the snowy landscape blurred past the window.

The 5-Story Victory in Brno
Arriving in Brno, I was met with another challenge: my accommodation was on the 5th floor with no elevator. Just as I was about to despair, a kind staff member offered to carry my heavy suitcase up the winding stairs.

The room turned out to be a stunning rooftop studio—spacious, warm, and perfect. And just like in Bratislava, the mini-bar was free! Sipping apple juice from a fancy wine glass while reflecting on the day’s chaos, I realized that these small hurdles are exactly what make a journey unforgettable.
